| • CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN: BRUGES & MORE |
| 22 Jul | BY Alexander • 10 comments |

The Olsens were the first to be spotted wearing these Christian Louboutin Bruges. They came in patent and regular leather, but you'd be lucky to find these in patent. They first debuted a year or so back, during the winter season. Cork or wood were two options for the heel and base of the shoe. They sell for $735.

I'm sure you'd all love to know the history of the red-soled shoe?
"I did not really choose the red sole. Its more like the red sole came to me and had to stay with me. It started as a happy accident, which I kept. I was very inspired by pop art so all my drawings were really full of colors. So the first prototype arrives. Its very similar to my designs so I was very happy. But something was missing. Thank God I had this girl with me who was painting her nails. Grabbed her nailpolish - thank you to Chanel for that! I grabbed the nailpolish and I painted the sole."

So this is the first fashion blog I've ever done, and by the looks of it, you all love it. But I'd still love to hear some feedback! Feel free to email me or comment below.
I'd also love to see pictures of some pieces of clothing or accessories that you love. Maybe a picture of the outcome of the "boho" hair post!
Also, any topics you'd like me to cover, Olsen-related or not, I'll see what I can do.
Thanks again, Alexander |
| • READER'S REQUEST: FUR AND JACKETS |
| 20 Jul | BY Alexander • 14 comments |

Okay, so this might be the worst post yet, but here it goes. Fur coats and jackets.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen caused much speculation due to the fact that they wear fur. They've encountered issues with PETA, and many more animal-lovers. They usually wear vintage fur pieces, maybe from thrift stores in Paris, but they pull these awkward pieces off quite well.
Above is a piece from Elizabeth & James. It sells for $995.
Above are a two fur pieces that caught my eye while searching online. Classy fur pieces are hard to find, so if you're looking for a coat: I suggest going to a thrift store or a local Salvation Army. The first is a rabbit coat, and the second is a golden mink bag.
----------
Some jackets from Urban Outfitters which you might enjoy:

The cropped black coat looks almost like a blazer, because of the collared neck. How innovative. The second is a denim piece. Mixing denim is a-okay for Fall, so you might want to pick up a denim jacket this season. Third is an interesting - almost pin-striped or conducter-like blazer, I thought that was pretty cool. All of those can be found at Urban Outfitters.com
That's all I have for now! |
| • HOW-TO: Mary-Kate's Hair |
| 20 Jul | BY Alexander • 10 comments |

So I'm guessing you'd like to know how to get Mary-Kate's effortless-looking, boho hair style? Follow these steps and you'll be on your way..
NOTE: This process is even easier if you have curly or wavy hair
----------
1. You can give yourself "boho" hair with any cut, really. The only vital rule is that you need a few layers! This applies to guys too, if any of you are interested. Let your hair air-dry for the most part, avoid whipping out the blow dryer, you dont want that much volume!
2. If you happen to have a hair appointment in your near future, I suggest you ask for a few highlights. Don't go too dramatic -- remember, you want this to look natural.
3. No combs or brushes are allowed! Use your hands where you would normally use a comb or brush. Once again, avoid the blow dryer. Keep it natural and free-flowing.
4. When your hair is damp, or even dry, add some styling wax or pomade, anything of the sort to your hair -- applying from the root to the tips. For guys, just the root and the tip. If your hair is full of volume naturally? Try weighing it down using more product to not look so "diva."
5. Add some extra hold hairspray, aerosol-style. Use your hands to scrunch pieces of hair, even tease a couple pieces to achieve messiness.
6. Once you've achieved YOUR desired look, use your hands to part the middle of your hair and you should be all good to go!
----------
If you have straight hair, teasing usually works best rather than a curling iron or some sort. Try keeping the electric items out of the way!
Dress up your hair with a hippie-headband wrapped around your forehead, or maybe add a couple braids in there from the middle to the tip of your hair. Play around with this!
----------
IT'S ALL ABOUT PERFECTING THE MESSINESS! |
| • Studs! |
| 18 Jul | BY Alexander • 8 comments |

Whether you love 'em or hate 'em, this trend debuted in Fall 2007, and is here to stay. Have any of you seen Sex and The City? Carrie's Dior studded belt was thrown on during almost every scene. Not to mention those fucking pearls she wore to bed?! Anyways, the point is: Studs can make any blase outfit, into a trendy, edgy ensemble.
Above and below are many pictures of studded accessories. Mary-Kate's studded Balenciaga wallet is my absolute favorite studded accessory. If anyone can find that online for me? My virginity is yours. Just kidding, moving on..
There are a few variations of studs. Cone studs, Pyramid studs, Pointy studs. The list goes on. (In order from trendy, to just plain scary.) Pointy studs that you'd see on a dog collar? Not cute, don't even think about picking one of those up.
Usually studded belts and accessories are a bit pricier than other items. Due to the fact of the labor of putting the studs on. Don't be alarmed at the price tag if you think it's a tad bit expensive for a belt.
You could even buy your own studs from either a craft store or online and put them on almost anything! Click here to see Mary-Kate's custom studded Minnetonkas!

Throw on any of these items with an outfit that doesn't neccessarily belong with studded accessories. Have fun with it, I dont know.. pretend you're playing dress-up or something. The "Worst Dressed Of The Week" in People magazine doesn't stop the Olsen twins, and neither should it stop you! |
| • URBAN OUTFITTERS MUST-HAVES FOR FALL: MEN |
| 17 Jul | BY Alexander • 8 comments |

Foreword: As you know, this is the fashion section at Olsen Files, so everything related to the "olsens" is expected. I like changing things up a bit, and I'm really trying to bring something else to the cliche "fashion blog" world. With that said, there must be other men out that that enjoy the Olsens as much as I do, and are inspired by their style every day. I think this will be the first site that will represent both men and women's style inspired by the Olsen twins, and I even might do some trend spotting myself, so just keep checking the site.
I'm going to start off with an acid-wash sleeveless hoodie. Perfect for layering, and the acid wash is perfect for keeping that "rocker flare" that I talked about in the women's post. You could wear a dressy button-up shirt under this, or even a simple t-shirt as shown. Be creative, you can do so many things with this. Dressy pants.. that sounds boring. Baggy dressy pants? Now that's a little bit more interesting. Keep the contrast by wearing a top that fits your body. Tucked in, or not tucked in .. that is the question. It's all about individuality, people. Black bag. Self-explanatory. Let's move on.
A simple, light-weight scarf, is a trendy way to kick off the Fall season. Not neccesarily worn as shorn, you could throw this on over almost anything. Personally, I might wear this with a hoodie and shorts in the Fall. Like I said, keep the contrast and keep things unconventional, dare to be different. Heavy on top, light on bottom. Blazers. An Ashley Olsen favorite. You could spend a heaping load of cash on a blazer, or you could just go to your local Salvation Army and pick one up for a few bucks. Your choice, this is just an example. I keep on talking about contrast, and the bright blue sweater vest is just that. Wear this with dark colors, to let the vest pop. Dark, dark, dark, BRIGHT! It's a way of saying "Hey, it's not Winter yet! I can still wear some color!!" .. or something.
Blue oxfords are a must in any man's wardrobe. Simple as that. This can be worn casually or formally. Keep it unbuttoned a little bit, or not. Dress it up with some crazy accessories, maybe a studded item, no? Next are two classic skinny jeans. One pair is a little distressed, while the other is clean-looking and dark blue. Skinny jeans are here to stay, so if you are still dreading the trend, I am sorry to say that you are shit out of luck, and you should buy a pair!
I own these minnetonkas, and I must say that I get a lot of shit for it. But .. it's worth it! I ordered these LAST year and they are just now surfacing and becoming trendy. How's that for trendspotting ;) A military jacket: A lot of designers have been military-inspired, like Balenciagas collection a season back. Definitely a good buy, it fits well and looks pretty modern and innovative to me! Yup, rubber bracelets. You've seen MK rockin' these bad boys a week ago or so, and I agree, these are back. So dig through your old jewelry boxes and dust off these babies - wear 'em like its 2003 again!
And finally .. the white v-neck. This is one of my personal signature items, I own about 50 of them! I wear one almost every day. It's what I feel most comfortable in, and you can really do so much with them. Dress it up or dress it down, add an accessory one day, and a new one another day. Belt? No belt? Scarf? No scarf? The possibilities are ENDLESS.
----- And there you have it! Your must-haves for the Fall season! |
